Hi Sridhar, The India F&V supply chain needs simple practical solutions to be implemented for F&V (Fruits and Vegetables Supply chain) the larger retailers like Bharti Walmart, Reliance Fresh have their own ERP packages but have not given the desired result on account of fragmented supply which is highly perishable. The secondary market is BOP folks to pick up the produce not sold towards the evening. Working with self help groups to divert the produce to slums is another way to ensure the produce is not wasted.

I was surprised this blog featured in Acumen website. The tone is frivolous and condescending .....iphone etc. A more insightful perspective would have been helpful, the author has rephrased the issue/problem in a school girl goes on an excursion style. This is an issue which needs focus, I respect effort of Acumen and appreciate the depth in all issues, this writeup came as a surprise.

Very interesting blog post and it is very relevant to what I am working on for my MBA summer internship. I am looking at Sub Saharan Africa and the potential of a healthcare and agriculture cold chain to compliment each other. I would be interested in discussing more.

Nice article. I would like to see what concrete investment opportunities exist in India where SC efficiencies can be reduced significantly. Perhaps there is a secondary market for 'not so fresh' food (from cold storage) rather than letting it perish? As an entrepreneur whose company SmartOps provides SC Inventory solutions here in US and in Europe, it will be great to do something useful in India also.

I've traveled in the special buses operated in the early morning hours for farmers to take their produce to "uzhavar sandhai" (Farmer's Market) in Tamil Nadu. It was a good scheme where both farmers and consumers benefit. Broadcasting the daily uzhavar sandhai prices everyday in radio and newspapers help bring down the prices outside the market too, while fetching a better price to the farmers.

Thank you very much for your story of going out to do market research (literally). It was both a personal and informative account and very interesting to read. I would be very interested in reading more about the ways in which your project progresses.
